This picture was taken by John Hertog shortly after he purchased the car in 1996.
This is on the beach somewhere in Southern California.
John was from Long Island, NY and being the adventurous soul that he was, his plan was to fly out and drive the car back.
He experienced a generator problem shortly into the trip, so plans changed and the car was shipped back.
Back in Long Island, John repaired the generator and a few other things.
He drove the car to the Chrysler 300 Meet in Spencer, North Carolina in September of 1996.
I bought the car from John in 1998 and it has been here ever since.
1960 300 F

This 300F coupe is one of four 300F's specially ordered
without the Flyte-Sweep trunk lid.
Yet this car has one -- a previous owner was
unaware of this and installed a Flyte-Sweep lid.
The correct lid has been found and
will be re-installed.

This is the build sheet. From Gil Cunningham: There are four F's known with the non-Flite Sweep deck lid. 3 of the 4 have code 602 which indicates that the customer ordered the car without the Flite Sweep deck lid. On the track sheet, the deck lid change is not coded, necessitating the teletype message "SPECIAL ORDER, SPEC DECK LID".
You can see the 602 code and the message in the lower left corner of the build sheet. Click the picture to enlarge for more detail. For an even larger version, click here
