Golden Lion Grrrages

1960 Chrysler 300F

Production of the 300 F:
964 coupes, 248 convertibles.
273 coupes and 76 convertibles still exist.
This was the first year for the ram induction system.

VIN: 8403142393

Behind this barn door sits a white 1960 Chrysler 300F coupe.
Since 1983, this car has shared the barn with birds, mice, and racoons.

It is missing a few parts. They might be upstairs in the barn.

It was in June 2015 that the doors to the barn were opened.

In the sunlight.

The first step in reassembly.
I found the missing headlight doors and installed them.
Other parts are found and some remain in hiding.

The engine pad says MR 413, which is the code for a 1959 413. I estimate this car was built in March of 1960. If Chrysler was still using up 1959 engines at this time, it might be the original. But it could be a replacement, and I doubt we will ever know for sure.

The passenger side ram exhaust manifold, showing the heat tubes. Soon the rams will go back on and these won't be visible.

The driver side ram exhaust manifold, shown before the rams go back on.

The front bumper brackets were missing.
There are 6 brackets.
I had a set saved from a car I parted out years ago.

With a snap of the fingers, the bumper is on.
The turn signal housings are installed,
and the grille is back.

The VIN tag is in place, never has been disturbed.

The Astradome odometer shows 54,461.

It is hard to get a good shot of the data tag. I think I see 03-24 under the SO, which would say a March 24, 1960 build date.

Inner fenders are correct, they have they cut outs for the rams. Cover plates are missing.

You can see the driver side inner fender here and you can also see the hood hinges have yet to be found.

The hood has rust but it is straight. I have seen pieces in worse shape than this repaired so I think this one can be saved.

Rams, carbs, distributor, radiator installed.

It is beginning to look like an F again.

How about a bath?
It took some effort but 30 years of dirt came off.
I found a set of hood hinges but only 1 hinge had a spring.
I removed the spring and installed the hinges.

This is as far as I will be taking the car. The plan had always been to get it back together and then into the hands of someone that wants to restore an F. The car has a fresh, valid, transferrable New York registration (title). Contact Bob@simplexco.com
