Control arm bumpers, upper and lower.
Lower control arm bumper installed.
The rear axle housing removed.
Turns out it has
a Sure Grip tag.
Housing after cleaning with a wire brush,
with more still to do.
This is the underside of the differential, still
wearing
the paint mark from the factory.
The rear axle assembly ready for paint.
Painted. The nose (the differential) isn't painted.
It gets
a clear coat.
In the back of the truck.
Going from the shop to the garage.
Unload from the truck.
Very nose heavy, wants to roll over.
Moving with the caster carts ("RollMasters")
keeps the scratches off.
Rear assembly installed.
Also new rear springs
brake lines and fuel lines.
New brake lines for the front end.
New brakes on the rear.
New brakes for the front.
The front anti-sway bar was optional.
This car didn't have it
so I added one.
This car is an automatic transmission with tilt-wheel.
To install the 4 speed transmission, the tilt-wheel
must be removed.
In 64, first year for tilt-wheel and first year for the 4 speed,
you could not get the tilt with the 4 speed because the
clutch pedal would hit the turn signal switch.
In 65, Chrysler moved the turn switch from the side of
the column to the top, and you could get the 4 speed with tilt wheel.
So for this car, we have to remove the tilt wheel column
and replace with the standard wheel.
Here is the tilt column removed.
You can see the steering shaft is two-piece.
A closer look at the two-piece shaft.
I don't think the tilt shaft in 65 was two-piece.
You can also see the turn signal switch which would
interfere with the clutch pedal.
The two pieces of the steering shaft are held with a roll pin.
While the steering column is out, need to address the floor
which has to be modified for the 4 speed.
This is what is left of the floor from the K 4 speed donor car.
You can see the hump needed to clear the shifter and linkage.
This is the old 4 speed floor over the existing floor.
It will be used as the template for the hole to be cut.
The hole being roughed in.
Getting the engine and transmission ready to install.
Then I can tell if the modified floor clears the linkages.
We have clearance Clarence.
What's our vector Victor?
Time to install the clutch-brake pedal assembly
for the 4 speed.
Has to be done before the steering column goes in.
It has been a boat-load of work to get to this point
but things are looking good.
