1964 Chrysler 300K Silver Edition Page 3 I had a minute between projects to address the front bumper tilt. These 63-64 bumpers with their rear facing side wings can really show sag or tilt if you don't get the bumper installed correctly. This car had the sag but this is a quick and easy job to correct. There are four 7/8" bolts holding the bracket to the frame. A 3/16" shim placed on the top half of the bracket will bring the sag back to level.
You may have noticed we installed 15" wheels and J wheelcovers.
The driver tail pipe had some holes by the rear hanger. Once we got it off, we saw there were more holes and the pipe was ready to replace. I rummaged through the garage and found a set of new 1962 Chrysler tail pipes that I purchased years ago from another project. They are a match for the 64 and we will set to the installation.
We put the car on the road for some driving during the summer of 2025. Some days I would take it to work and driving in the early dawn, the dash lights were not bright. It was the rheostat in the headlight switch so I changed the switch. I bought a new one from the web, the listing said it fit 1963-1966. It doesn't. I needed a 1962-1964 switch. The body on the 1962-64 version is shorter by maybe 1/4" than the 63-66 so the pull shaft won't latch. Quite the "what the heck" moment, you can see the video here. We had the car out for exercise and rolled up the passenger side front window. It went up and would not come down. From either the master switch or the door switch, we got a click. Taking the door apart, the motor was good but the transmission was locked up. This transmission was not particularly difficult to remove -- the third mounting bolt could be accessed with a ratchet wrench. With the cover removed, you can see the fractured driven gear. I had a spare transmission so I installed that rather than use the old transmission after swapping in a new gear. The window is back in business.
